EU’ll be selling less at Wetherspoons

Drinking for Britain Wetherspoons will sell more UK beer and wine EU’ll be selling less at Wetherspoons by Aidan Radnedge Published

While no one is entirely sure what Brexit Britain will look like, Wetherspoons has just announced that its pubs will no longer be selling French champagne or German wheat beers as of 9th July.

Under the plan, British wheat beer and alcohol-free beer will replace the current beers brewed in Germany.

Martin - a vocal eurosceptic - said the pub chain is reviewing all of its products in a company-wise reshuffle which could take up to two years, something he hopes will make the business "more competitive".

He said that tariffs were imposed on wine from Australia, New Zealand and the United States, and also on coffee, oranges, rice and more than 12,000 other products.

Wetherspoon will continue to serve Kopparberg cider from Sweden, as the company has said it will transfer production to the United Kingdom post-Brexit.

Mr Martin, who campaigned for Brexit, said his company would be transitioning away from European Union products and replacing the likes of the famous French bubbly with sparkling wines from the UK.

However, we are starting to make the transition to non-EU trade.

More worrying is the staggering decline in independent, investigative journalism.

In beer, it will serve wheat beers from the United Kingdom and US: Blue Moon Belgian White, Thornbridge Versa Weisse Beer and SA Brains Atlantic White.

Sparkling wines from the United Kingdom will include Denbies Sparkling Whitedowns Brut and Whitedowns Rose Brut, as well as Hardys Sparkling Pinot Chardonnay from Australia.

Wetherspoon will continue to serve Kopparberg cider from Sweden.

"The general message is that sparkling wine is a growth product", said Mr Martin.

Inspector general report could convince even skeptics of FBI's anti-Trump bias
But Trump nonetheless insisted the document - released by the Justice Department inspector general - revealed partisan prejudice. Mr Trump is certain to try to use the report to validate his firing of Mr Comey a year ago .

"In similar situations we will work closely with suppliers of niche products".

Martin has maintained - contrary to industry expert opinion - that Brexit can mean cheaper food for British customers.

Martin says that in order to maximise opportunities from Brexit the United Kingdom should follow free-trading nations like Australia and Singapore by ending tariffs. That could change if Britain exits the EU customs union when it leaves the bloc.

"Ending tariffs will also help to minimise border inspections, and will benefit poorer countries in Africa and elsewhere, which are penalised by European Union protectionism".
