Director Antoine Fuqua chatted to Barbara about who will take over from Daniel Craig, 50, if he hangs up his gun after the next Bond film, due next year.

In the correspondence, which was released during the massive Sony hack that year, the then-studio co-chair Amy Pascal said to a colleague: 'Idris should be the next Bond'.

In Pacific Rim, Idris Elba displayed the commanding presence required of James Bond. Fuqua responded that the transition "will happen eventually", going on to suggest Elba as the frontrunner for the part. The director also revealed that Elba was a front-runner for the role. "Could be a woman, could be a black woman, could be a white woman, but I think, that character, everybody would like to see it have - do something different with it, why not?"
