Sprint and LG say they'll offer the first 5G phone in the first half of 2019
17 August, 2018, 01:12
The LG phone will be customized to Sprint's planned 5G network, and will be compatible with T-Mobile only on that carrier's existing 4G network, John Tudhope, Sprint director of product development, said in an interview. There are no concrete details available about the 5G LG smartphone other than the vague release date.
LG Electronics and US mobile carrier Sprint are teaming up to bring 5G-enabled smartphones to the U.S.by the first half of next year. All four major U.S. carriers have advanced 5G roadmaps, but initial deployments will be restricted to Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) broadband in major cities until the first 5G smartphones arrive next year. It'd be nice if there was more than one to choose from, and maybe we'll hear more from Sprint in the months ahead. Sprint only says the LG device will be a beautifully-designed advanced 5G smartphone capable of offering blazing fast speed and ultra-reliable wireless.
LG Electronics said the cooperation with Sprint will pave the way for the company to expand ties with North American mobile carriers.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics has confirmed its upcoming Galaxy S10 smartphone will not be the company's first 5G device. Yes, change will be in usage as full-length HD movies will be downloaded in seconds that also with high graphics and play games with no lags whatsoever. If the launch goes as planned, Sprint will become the first carrier to offer 5G services across the country. With Massive MIMO at the foundation of Sprint's Gigabit LTE and 5G service, Sprint can keep meeting its customers' demand for unlimited data and high-bandwidth applications, such as television in high definition and virtual reality.
Sprint and LG had partnered to launch what they claim will be the first 5G phone in the US.
