On Tuesday morning, Premier Doug Ford will be at the Barley Days Brewery in Picton to announce the new minimum price of a bottle or can of beer will be $1.

"Buck-a-Beer" will not apply to draft beer sold in restaurants and bars or ciders, spirits and wine. Once upon a time you could buy a beer for $1 a bottle.

Premier Doug Ford says participating businesses will be offered prime spots in Liquor Control Board of Ontario stores, or advertising in flyers or inserts, among other possible rewards.

Burtch said with the newly announced 10 per cent aluminum tariffs from the United States, caning beer has become even more expensive and the margins are smaller than they once were. Barley Days Brew, which is set to host Ford for the buck-a-beer announcement, says it's discount lager is "not going to compromise" on quality.

The Liberals had cited the government's "social responsibility" mandate for the 25-cent increase in beer prices at the time.

"Nobody is being forced to lower their prices and there will be no subsidies or tax handouts", Ford said, calling the move a "win-win".

The lower price, which is limited to beer with an alcohol volume of less than 5.6 per cent, will take effect on August 27 and is expected to be reflected on store shelves on Labour Day weekend.

When asked whether participating brewers would be subsidized to make up the difference in price, CTV News Toronto was told there would be "zero" financial incentives. The price floor will affect beer that contains an alcohol percentage below 5.6%.

Gates Takes Stand In Manafort Trial
Gates testified that he and Manafort had 15 foreign accounts they did not report to the USA government, and knew that was illegal. Gates and Manafort purposely lied to Manafort's accountants, telling them he had no foreign accounts or interests, Gates said.

The Tories have previously said that the return of buck-a-beer would see more competition in the beer market without affecting the province's revenues from beer and wine taxes.

"Essentially, if anyone does it, I predict that dollar beer is going to taste like it's worth about a dollar", Johnson said.

Annual indexing for all packaged beer will be suspended to maintain the $1.00 minimum floor price over time.
