In a statement released Thursday, NASA and its Commercial Crew partners revealed more details of the effort to carry astronauts from the U.S.to the International Space Station.

Nasa astronauts Robert Behnken, 48, and Douglas Hurley, 51, will fly together as SpaceX's first Dragon crew.

Behnken, Hurley, Boe and Mann are Nasa's first astronauts to be named to the test flights of new United States spacecraft since the March 1978 announcement of the space shuttle's first orbital flight test crews.

"For the first time since 2011, we are on the brink of launching American astronauts on American rockets from American soil", said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine at the event attended by several members of Congress and other NASA and industry officials. Suni Williams, who is best known for running the Boston Marathon on an ISS treadmill, will be joined by rookie astronaut Josh Cassada.

Spain Could Hit 48C As Heatwave Continues Across Europe
Weather warnings have been issued across Europe for the coming days. 'Continental heat will move up to Britain from the south. Tourists in Spain and Portugal need to take care in such high temperatures", forecaster Richard Miles said.

The Starliner spacecraft is being outfitted at the Commercial Crew and Cargo Processing Facility at the Kennedy Space Center, according to NASA.

SpaceX and Boeing are shooting for a test flight of their capsules to the International Space Station by the end of this year or early next, with the first crews flying from Cape Canaveral, Florida, by next spring or summer.

SpaceX and Boeing built new spaceships for NASA to fly its astronauts into orbit. NASA astronauts Eric Boe and Nicole Aunapu Mann are slated for the test flight of Boeing's Starliner, accompanied by former NASA astronaut Chris Ferguson, who now works as a commercial astronaut for Boeing. The first tests flights are expected to take place within the next few months, into early next year. Just as in the past, all human launches will originate here on the space coast.

Both companies will also conduct abort system test flights to ensure the astronauts can safely escape should their rockets go awry. Flights without any people are expected before the end of 2018, followed by two crewed missions sometime in 2019. It won't be the first time SpaceX trounces Boeing.

'Winner-take-all' match between Tiger and Phil reportedly set for November
Porter also talked about the possibility of Woods clearing that last hurdle of winning an event at Bridgestone this weekend. The event will take place at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, sources previously told ESPN's Mike Greenberg .

During the manned tests, the astronauts will be able to use the displays inside the spacecraft, communicate with mission control and practise manual controls during flight.

NASA TV is broadcasting video of the announcement live from Texas.

Astronaut Doug Hurley, who will be on the first crew of the SpaceX Dragon, hinted at the delays when he noted, "The first flight is something you dream about as a test pilot, and you don't think it's ever going to happen to you". The two companies have also developed new spacesuits, modified their launch pads and established mission control teams to support the upcoming flights.

Since the space shuttle program was shut down, the USA space agency NASA has had to rely on Russian Federation to fly astronauts to space station, a $100 billion orbital research laboratory that flies about 250 miles (402 km) above Earth.
