In a statement, authorities in Egypt said Mr Cooper died in his hotel room at 11:00 local time on Tuesday.

Kelly also added that she wanted to clear up speculation about the couple's cause of death in the national press. "We have no cause of death, a post-mortem is under way".

Ormerod, meanwhile, reportedly expressed concern to local officials that a malfunctioning AC may have contributed to her parents' deaths, per the Telegraph.

John and Susan Cooper were on a Thomas Cook holiday when they fell ill at the Steigenberger Aqua Magic Hotel in Hurghada.

Holidaymakers were offered alternative hotels "as a precautionary measure" as well as the option of returning home.

Safety is always our first priority, so as a precautionary measure we have taken a decision to remove all our customers from this hotel.

According to Qureshi, his Japanese counterpart was also expected to visit Pakistan at the end of August. The US continues to stand by that statement, a top government spokesperson said.

According to Reuters, a statement from the Red Sea provincial governor's office, entitled "normal death of an English old man and his wife", said both had died of heart failure.

The family statement comes after Thomas Cook evacuated guests from the hotel following further reports that "numerous" guests had become ill during their stay.

Dr Maged Eledawy, the head of Hurghada Hospital, earlier said Mr Cooper died after suffering a heart attack before Susan died from grief.

It stated the hotel was last audited late last month and received an overall score of 96%.

The daughter of a British couple who died at a resort hotel in Egypt believes there is "something suspicious" behind their deaths. Mum and Dad meant the world to me and the children, and we are in utter shock over what has happened and what is happening.

John Cooper suffered a "circulatory collapse" and died at the hotel.

She told Sky News: "They had no illness, no stomach upset, no vomiting, no illness whatsoever - they were in flawless health when they went to bed".

Ormerod told Sky News her parents were in "perfect health" when they went to bed Monday.

"We want to stay but we have to leave without ANY logical reasonable explanation", said one Twitter user, @SalieVerdeye, who claims to be at Steigenberger Aqua Magic.

The evacuation was a major blow to Egypt's tourist industry which, despite a modest upswing this year, is struggling to recover from years of political turmoil, plane crashes and violence that had caused a steep drop in visitors since 2010.

A spokeswoman for the British Foreign Office said: "We continue to support the family of a couple who died in Hurghada".

The Steigenberger Aqua Magic hotel's general manager, Dieter Geiger, strongly denied "an increased incidence of illness" at the resort, Sky News reports.

Others have been filling up propane tanks and waiting in lines that circle around the block to get gas for their cars. Governor David Ige has urged residents to set aside a 14-day supply of water, food and medicine.
