18 million new cancer cases this year: WHO Cancer will kill 9.6 million people globally in 2018: report
Delores Daniels | 15 September, 2018, 13:13

An estimated 18.1 million new cancer cases, and 9.6 million deaths, were predicted worldwide for 2018 in a report by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

Together, lung, breast and bowel cancer will account for a third of all new cases and deaths.

Almost a half of New Zealand males, and a third of females are estimated to have a risk of getting cancer before they are 75.

For many cancers, overall incidence rates in countries with high or very high HDI are generally 2-3 times those in countries with low or medium HDI.

The UN researchers said lung cancer kills the most people, followed by breast cancer in women and colorectal cancer.

In emerging economies, it said, there is also a shift from cancers related to poverty and infections to cancers linked to lifestyles and diets more typical of wealthier countries. Belly cancer (783,000 deaths) and liver cancer (782,000 deaths) are the third and fourth most prevalent cancer deaths in 2018.Cancer in men vs. womenThe incidence charge for all cancers combined was once about 20% higher in men than in women, and deaths were almost 50% higher for men.Lung cancer is the most in model cancer among men with 14.5% of the estimated conditions, when put next with eight.4% for women in 2018.

Duke Energy Corp expected between 25 percent and 75 percent of its 4 million customers would lose power in the Carolinas. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles (280 kilometers) from its center.

Until the end of 2018, nearly half of all cases of cancer and a significant number of deaths from cancer will occur in Asia. About one in four new cancer cases diagnosed in women worldwide occurs in the breast, and it is the most common cancer for women in 154 of the 185 countries in the new study.

Cancer deaths among men, according to the Globocan report.

The Americas have 13.3 per cent of the global population and account for 21 per cent of cancer cases and 14.4 per cent of cancer deaths.

They are also among five most unsafe forms of cancer, representing one third of all cancer incidence and mortality worldwide, according to IARC's GLOBOCAN 2018 database, which provides estimates of incidence and mortality in 185 countries for 36 types of cancer.

The incidence rate for all cancers combined was about 20% higher in men than in women, and deaths were almost 50% higher for men. This is because these regions have a higher frequency of certain cancer types that are associated with poorer prognosis, and higher mortality rates, IARC says, in addition to limited access to diagnosis and treatment. It estimates that for men the risk of developing cancer before the age of 75 is 46.27 per cent.

Of the 36 types of cancer, the most common are lung cancer, breast cancer and bowel.

Trump Plans To Pay Millions To Mexico So It'll Deport Undocumented Immigrants
But it seems incoming president Lopez Obrador is looking for alternative ways to combat mass migration. Lopez Obrador's plan to combat immigration is rather progressive.

Cancers of lung, female breast, and colorectum are the top three cancers in terms of incidence, and are ranked within the top five in terms of mortality.

The risk of getting cancer for males and females is higher in the New Zealand and Australia region, than in any of the other regions IARC breaks the world into.

"One of the things that happens with transitions towards high levels of socio-economic development is the environment changes", says Freddie Bray, IARC's head of cancer surveillance.

"These new figures highlight that much remains to be done to address the alarming rise in cancer burden globally, and prevention has a key role to play", IARC Director Christopher Wild said.

"Efficient prevention and early detection policies must be implemented urgently to complement treatments in order to control this devastating disease across the world", he added.
