Only weeks ago, some supermarkets dropped the price of strawberries as low as $1 per punnet to help suppliers move tonnes of excess produce.

Strawberries Australia's industry development officer Jennifer Rowling told the ABC that the industry is "devastated by this incident and it's distressing to think that someone's done something like this".

So, after months of picking and planting, devastated farmers have seen hundreds of thousands of berries simply go to waste.

Investigators have also now confirmed a fourth contamination incident as having occurred in a punnet of strawberries.

Mr Tran says he just wants answers like everyone else.

Six brands of strawberries are believed to have been targeted in a needle sabotage spanning four states, with police unsure if it is the same ploy or a copycat.

Queensland Acting Chief Superintendent Terry Lawrence said on September 12 that the police were in contact with the farm operators and Woolworths representatives, and that they believed that the offender contaminated the stock intentionally.

It was the fifth shocking incident to be reported this week.
