The problem of obesity in the nation - and in Kentucky - has gotten worse, not better.

Iowa, Massachusetts, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and SC saw a significant increase in adult obesity rates between 2016 and 2017, while 22 states featured between 30 and 35 percent and 19 states had adult obesity rates between 25 and 30 percent. From 2012 to 2017, 31 states saw a significant increase in obesity rate, and alarmingly, no state saw a significant decrease over that five-year period.

There is good news underlying the rising obesity rates in the United States, though.

Adult obesity rates increased in Iowa, Massachusetts, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and SC between 2016 and 2017, and no states saw any declines. Obesity is determined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as having a Body Mass Index - or BMI - of 30 or higher.

Adults without a high school degree had an obesity rate of 35.6 percent in comparison to 32.9 percent of adults with a high school degree, 31.9 percent of adults with some college and 22.7 percent of college graduates.

Seven US states have obesity rates of at least 35 percent, a new map has revealed. Nationally, the adult obesity rates for Latinos, Blacks and whites are 47 percent, 46.8 percent and 37.9 percent respectively.

Health officials say that addressing the obesity epidemic will not only lead to better health outcomes but also reduce medical costs. "And when the funding goes down, states like Florida and the local communities within the state lose resources". An estimated $149 billion is spent annually in directly related health spending.

"Conditions in people's lives have been changing over the last few decades, making it more hard to have healthier foods and physical activity as a natural part of their lives", he states.

"The goal is to create the conditions that encourage healthy behavior", Auerbach said.

There are, however, bright spots in certain settings where policies and programs have made it easier to eat well and exercise.

Obesity levels are highest in Black and Latino communities, low-income and rural communities, places where residents often have limited access to healthy options.

States should ensure that all students receive at least 60 minutes of physical education or activity during each school day. Medicare would possibly be pleased to composed promote and quilt obesity counseling.

The truth about Serena Williams' US Open drama
For me, it blows my mind. "But I'm going to continue to fight for women and to fight for us to have equal [treatment]". Osaka had just won her first Grand Slam title after defeating the 23-time major victor Serena Williams at the U.S.

Food and beverage companies should eliminate children's exposure to advertising and marketing of unhealthy products. Also, hospitals should stop selling or serving sugary drinks.
