OTTAWA-The Canadian economy added more jobs than expected in September, as a sharp rebound in part-time hiring nudged the unemployment rate down to 5.9%.
The improvement in September reflected the addition of 1,000 net new jobs while the size of the labour force, which includes all people who are seeking jobs, remained the same.
The September job gains indicate volatility continues in the jobs market after August saw a decline of more than 51,000 positions, when the unemployment rate was set at 6.0 per cent.
