Murad, who was one of 3,000 Yazidi girls and women who were victims of gang rape, has been on a crusade to spread the word about the sexual abuses she was subjected to.

Denis Mukwege, the Congolese gynaecologist renowned for campaigning against the use of rape and sexualized violence as a weapon of war, has been named a joint victor of 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. "Nadia Murad is the witness who tells of the abuses perpetrated against herself and other", the Nobel Committee said on Friday.

Murad is Yazidi woman from Sinjar, Iraq, and a former sex slave to the Islamic State.
"For myself, I think of my mother, who was murdered by DAESH [IS], the children with whom I grew up, and what we must do to honour them", she added.
And on Friday they were truly blessed as the Nobel committee announced that Murad became a peace laureate.
"The abuses were systematic and part of a military strategy".

At 25 years old, Murad is the second youngest person to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize, after Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai.
In a tweet, Saleh said he had spoken with Murad to congratulate her, saying the prize was "an acknowledgement of (the) tragic plight" of the religious minority and "recognition for her courage in defending human rights of victims of terror & sexual violence". In it, she recounted in harrowing detail her months in captivity, her escape and her journey to activism. The Statute establishes that sexual violence in war and armed conflict is a grave violation of worldwide law.
Murad was only 23 when she was named the U.N.'s Goodwill Ambassador and her book, "The Last Girl", tells of her captivity, the loss of her family and her eventual escape.
