"We don't have any information on that", State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert told reporters Tuesday. "We can not let this happen, to reporters, to anybody". We are going to take a serious look at it. It's a very bad situation.

Later on Wednesday, almost a quarter of the Senate's members wrote a letter to Trump that triggered a US investigation into the case that could result in sanctions against individual Saudis under a USA human rights law.

In a letter, the senators said they had triggered a provision of the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act requiring the president to determine whether a foreign person is responsible for a gross human rights violation.

The White House says that White House National security adviser John Bolton and White House senior adviser Jared Kushner have spoken to Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman about missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

A team of 15 Saudis who flew in from Saudi Arabia to visit and leave the consulate on the same day of Khashoggi's disappearance is suspected of playing a role in his disappearance, people familiar with the investigation said in a Washington Post report.

The case has sparked outrage from human rights and journalism groups.

Ties between Ankara and Riyadh are at a low point over Turkey's support for Qatar in that country's yearlong dispute with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations.

Trump, who took his first overseas trip as USA president to the kingdom and whose son-in-law Jared Kushner has close ties to Prince Mohammed, said Tuesday he had not yet talked to the Saudis about Khashoggi, "but I will be at some point", without elaborating.

The Manbij deal between Turkey and the US focuses on the withdrawal of the YPG from the city in order to stabilize the region.

Khashoggi, who had been living in self-imposed exile for the past year, vanished on October 2, after he entered the consulate to obtain a document. The Saudi foreign ministry was working to "see exactly what happened at that time", he said. "Silence, denials and delays are not acceptable. We demand to know the truth", he added.

Suspicions are mounting that Saudi's crown prince ordered the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey.

He has been critical of some policies of the crown prince and Riyadh's intervention in the war in Yemen.

The Turkish Daily Sabah has released the identities of the Saudi operatives, who had apparently travelled from Riyadh to Istanbul on two private jets and entered the Saudi mission on October 2 as Khashoggi entered the building.

Ankara backed Doha in denying the charges, instead accusing Saudi Arabia and its allies of using the pretext of terrorism allegations to suppress dissent at home.

Cengiz, who told CNN that she does not feel comfortable enough to give an on-camera interview, said in written answers to questions from CNN's Christiane Amanpour that Khashoggi "may have been kidnapped, abducted, or some harm may have come to him".

Turkish officials said they had concrete evidence missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was murdered, with a friend of the prominent writer saying they think he might have been dismembered.

Meanwhile, Turkish television channels have run CCTV footage, which they say shows the 15 alleged Saudi officers during their time in Istanbul.

The Post, a newspaper to which Khashoggi contributed, cited unnamed USA officials as saying that Saudi officials had been heard discussing a plan to lure Khashoggi from the U.S. state of Virginia, where he resided, and detain him. They said at the weekend they believed Mr Khashoggi was killed by a team sent to Istanbul and thought to consist of 15 Saudis.

Most other teams, it seems, are merely monitoring the Butler news and have removed themselves from the running for the time being. As the GM watched on the sidelines during a scrimmage, sources said that Butler yelled to Layden: "You f--ing need me, Scott".

There are plenty of gruesome rumours flying around over what happened to Jamal Khashoggi.
