In Northern Ireland, the Met Office has warned that "it's likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves".

The Met Office has issued an amber weather alert from 6am on Friday to 6pm on Saturday for South Wales and is warning of hazardous conditions.

It's warning southeast winds veering southwest will gust generally between 100 and 130km/h, higher in some coastal areas and on high ground.

According to the forecasters: "Gusts 50 to 60 miles per hour are likely in some places, with potential for gusts of 70 to 80 miles per hour around exposed coasts and hills, with large waves an additional hazard". Further strong winds may bring down leaves and branches, increasing the likelihood of flooding due to blocked drains or culverts.
