USA health officials have confirmed another case of a virus that has left eight children dead at a paediatric rehabilitation centre.

The strain found in the rehab center outbreak - type 7 - is among the more potent types and sometimes causes more serious respiratory illness, especially among those with weak immune systems.

The new diagnosis of adenovirus brings the total number of cases at the rehabilitation centre to 26. A staff member also became ill.

Quake rattles New Zealand as Harry and Meghan visit
Today's tremor was initially recorded as a 6.2 natural disaster , before being confirmed as a magnitude 6.1. The quake was centred 25km southwest of Taumarunui and was 207km deep.

Adenovirus is a family of viruses that typically impact young children and usually cause only mild illness, according to the Health Department.

The ninth child became ill before October 22 and died on October 28, the New Jersey Department of Health said.

"This is a tragic situation, and our thoughts are with the families who are grieving right now", New Jersey Health Commissioner Dr. Shereef Elnahal said in a press release.

He added: "The department continues to work very closely with the facility to ensure that all infection control measures are being followed".

Pompeo said on October 20 he was hopeful he would meet his North Korean counterpart "in the next week and a half or so". Lee said Washington and Seoul were working to ensure they engage North Korea with a united front.

The "medically fragile" unnamed child died overnight at Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, just two days after the facility announced the death of an eighth child.

Adenovirus is a respiratory disease with symptoms that may include a sore throat, pneumonia, diarrhea, pink eye, fever, and inflammation of the stomach and intestines. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is also there helping with lab testing and other expertise. The health department was first notified of the outbreak on October 9, according to a statement from the agency.

"Facility outbreaks are not always preventable, but in response to what we have seen in Wanaque, we are taking aggressive steps to minimize the chance they occur among the most vulnerable patients in New Jersey", Elnahal said in a statement.
