Controversial Zim prophet appears in court over HIV cure claim, bailed $300

A court has heard of a desperate scramble to destroy evidence before police swooped on Walter Magaya's office in Harare to seize unlicenced medicines he meant to sell as an HIV cure.

Prophet Healing and Deliverance Leader Walter Magaya has apologised to the Ministry of Health and Child Care for by passing procedure in announcing his cure for cancer and HIV through the Aguma herb.

He will be back in court November 26 pending trial.

As Briefly.co.za reported, Magaya claimed recently that God had revealed to him the cure, which he named "Aguma". The State also alleges that neither Magaya nor Aretha Medical are authorised by the Health Professions Authority to carry out clinical tests on any human being, to prove that Aguma can cure HIV/Aids and cancer.

PROPHET Walter Magaya and his workers flashed through the toilet system and further tried to burn containers of the preacher's HIV/Aids "cure" when they got wind of an impending police raid on his Malborough premises in Harare, a court heard on Friday.

"I spoke before I looked into authorities regulations". Having carried the research from outside the country, I went on to announce the results unprocedurally.

Magaya appeared briefly before the Harare magistrates court before he was released on $300 bail, the report said.

His claims were dismissed by the World Health Organisation, the United Nations and medical bodies in the country.

"The ministry strongly urges all clients on treatment for HIV and Aids to continue on their prescribed medication".

In a statement, World Health Organization representative to Zimbabwe Alex Gasasira said to date, there is no known and proven cure for HIV infection, but effective treatment exists to manage the infection through antiretroviral therapy and drugs.
