The decision comes after a tense standoff between Acosta and President Donald Trump during a press conference on Wednesday. As the reporter persisted, the member of staff tried to take the microphone from him.
The day after America´s midterm elections, USA president lost his cool as he laid into the CNN star, the latest in a long history of testy exchanges between the pair, after the reporter (Acosta) shunned Trump´s orders to give up the microphone during a presser.
"CNN should be ashamed of itself having you work for them", the President said.
Earlier this year, Acosta made headlines when he asked White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders if she agreed with Trump's view of the press that they were the "enemy of the people".
"I came in here as a nice person wanting to answer questions, and I had people jumping out of their seats screaming questions at me", Trump said.
Acosta shot back at the accusation of misconduct, tweeting "this is a lie" - as his network and a number of Washington journalists who had been at the press conference voiced support for him and denied the White House allegations that he touched the intern. He added, "I didn't put my hands on her or touch her, as the White House is alleging".
Shortly after the incident, CNNreleased a statement describing Trump's "ongoing attacks on the press" as "dangerous" and "un-American".
At that point, a White House intern tried to physically take the microphone from Acosta, who wrestled them for it. 'Excuse me ma'am, ' he said to her. "Mia Love gave me no love", he said.
"They are not only unsafe, they are disturbingly un-American", the network said, voicing its support for Acosta and "journalists everywhere". Acosta rudely rebuffed the poor woman, moving the mic away from her as if they were playing high stakes keep-away.
"They are not only risky, they are disturbingly un-American", CNN said through its Twitter feed. "I never thought that in this country I wouldn't be able to cover the president of the United States just for asking a question", he said.
Sanders said Trump has given the press more access than any President in history.
With the House possibly decided, during the 10 p.m. hour, the polls close on hotly contested Senate races in Montana and Nevada. In an interview with ABC on Monday, the president said he wished he had taken "a much softer tone" throughout his presidency.
