The NASA has announced that the International Space Station is infested with the Infectious bacteria, that is commonly found in the hospitals on the earth.

Researchers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, USA investigated five strains of Enterobacter that were isolated from the space toilet and the exercise platform on the ISS in March 2015 as part of a wider effort to characterize the bacterial communities that live on surfaces inside the space station. We found that the genomes of five strains of Enterobacter on the ISS were genetically most similar to the three strains, recently discovered on Earth.

The human body is teeming with microbes - we leave them everywhere, and even the best sterilization methods do not allow to completely get rid of them. Although the identified strains do not show pathogenic properties, they are 112 genes associated with virulence, course of disease and suppression of the immune system. Enterobacter species are commonly found in the human intestinal tract, as well as in sewage and soil, but they have also been implicated in a wide array of hospital-acquired infections, including endocarditis and bacteremia in addition to skin and soft tissue, urinary tract, lower respiratory tract, and intra-abdominal infections.

Dr Venkateswaran said: "Whether or not an opportunistic pathogen like E. bugandensis causes disease and how much of a threat it is, depends on a variety of factors, including environmental ones".
