Saudi Arabia CRISIS: Turkey demands Khashoggi suspects' extradition as new warrants issued

US Senators Bring Resolution calling Saudi Crown Prince ‘Complicit’ in Jamal Khashoggi's murder Activists in Washington demonstrating against the gruesome murder of Jamal Khashoggi

A Turkish court has issued arrest warrants for two suspects close to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, raising pressure on the kingdom's de facto leader after two U.S. senators accused him of ordering the hit.

"But at the same time, it's sort of hard to call this a cover up given the fact that everybody in that briefing last week knew that Pompeo and Mattis were misleading us, knew there was no way this murder happened without the consent and direction of MBS".

Among the options: pull back from United States involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen; deny any arms sales with Saudi Arabia; slap the crown prince with sanctions, along with a resolution saying the Senate finds him complicit in murder. The intelligence provided to lawmakers about Khashoggi's murder, "was not definitive", he said in a CNN interview on Tuesday.

The right choice - the American choice, I would say - is for the people to make that decision. "There's no way in the world those individuals came out and lied because they didn't".

However, both the executive and legislative branches remain united in their determination to preserve the core of the US-Saudi alliance, behind which are billions of dollars in military purchases by the Saudis and extensive oil imports by the US, along with an invaluable US political ally in the region.

"They have now linked all the destabilising actions that MBS has taken, staring with Yemen, passing by the Khashoggi murder onto Qatar and even Lebanon".

Sen. Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican, railed at the "deep state" for limiting the information flow to senators, while Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer demanded the full Senate be briefed as soon as possible.

Lawmakers on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee used a nomination hearing on Tuesday that included Christopher Henzel, a career diplomat tapped to be next ambassador to Yemen, to vent their frustrations about the Trump administration over its relationship with Saudi Arabia. Sen.

"I'm neither excusing it, I'm making an observation. I disagree with that assessment" Rubio said.

Trump, as well as Defense Secretary James Mattis and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, have downplayed the crown prince's ties to the murder, with Pompeo saying there was no "direct evidence" linking him to Khashoggi's death.

Mohammed bin Salman is "too strong", Ahmed said. He said it seemed as though the White House's response to the Khashoggi killing was that "you can kill a journalist".

"I think the secretary of Defense and secretary of State are in a bad spot because the president has given this bear hug to MBS and to the entire Saudi regime, so they are bound to carry out his freakish policy", he told MSNBC. "That might be the real policy question".

"I can not support arms sales to Saudi Arabia as long as he's in charge of this country", Graham told reporters.

Ahmed said the reason this message that "Mohammad bin Salman has to go" wasn't conveyed by the Central Intelligence Agency discreetly to Saudi King Salman, as would have been done in days past, is that the crown prince "is the gatekeeper to his father, so no one can go see the king unless MBS approves it..."

"I think we have lost a lot of our moral high ground", McCaskill said on the day of the vote.
