Jeremy Corbyn accuses Theresa May of being 'in denial' over Brexit deal

May's parliamentary allies in Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) have led the charge against her Brexit deal, but do not want a Labour government.

Opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn promptly called a vote of no confidence in May's government, which will be held within 24 hours.

Protesters wave flags as they demonstrate outside the House of Commons on January 15, in London. Corbyn dismissed her offer as too little, too late.

"Whatever option you put to the House of Commons it would be voted down". Giving her reaction afterwards, she was barely able to contain her frustration.

A total of 432 MPs voted against the deal and 202 MPs supported the deal. "But tonight's vote tells us nothing about what it does support - nothing about how - or even if - it intends to honor the decision the British people took in a referendum Parliament chose to hold". If everyone on her side does turn out, her margin of safety is just 13 votes. Former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson welcomed the imminent demise of the deal and said he would support a no-deal divorce "with zeal and enthusiasm" once it has failed. That would leave Mrs May tied for fifth place with Margaret Thatcher, 72 of whose MPs revolted against her plan to abolish Sunday-trading laws in 1986.

Following are some of the key reactions to Tuesday night's huge defeat for British Prime Minister Theresa May.

The mood in Parliament afterwards was surprisingly upbeat. But a few dozen more Tories have made unhappy noises about the Brexit deal.

"We have shown creativity and flexibility throughout", Juncker said.

In a tweet, the USA military said: "We are still gathering information and will share additional details at a later time". It is located near areas held by Russian-backed Syrian government forces and anti-Assad fighters backed by Turkey.

"The government's policy is that we are leaving the European Union on the 29th of March".

A general election would "deepen divisions when we need unity, it would bring chaos when we need certainty", Mrs May said.

The question is what that route forward looks like.

May has three days to outline her response to the rejected withdrawal agreement.

Constant commentary on Brexit has generated much ennui among the public on both sides of the divide; the 2016 referendum result was close: 51.9 per cent voted to leave the European Union and 48.1 per cent to stay in the EU.

"Mrs May said she would make time for a debate on the motion on Wednesday".

Fellow European leaders have voiced their disappointment that the deal-the product of two and a half years of tortuous negotiations between London and Brussels-was so resoundingly rejected.

The apparent ease with which May positioned herself to become prime minister after the referendum drew praise for her political skills - but this evaporated the following year.

Mitch McConnell Blocks Government Spending Bill And Blames Democrats for the Shutdown
Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., called the votes "political theater" and said the legislation will not pass the Senate. Democrats, he argued, were partying on a beach rather than negotiating - though Pelosi and Schumer were not on the trip.

If no party successfully gains a majority, an early general election would be triggered. "Things have now got to change, starting with the government", the party's Brexit spokesman Keir Starmer said in a video message on Twitter. But he'll come under pressure from many in his party to do so after Labour members voted at their conference a year ago that it should be an option.

The no-confidence vote on May's government is completely different from the no-confidence vote she faced in December, when members of her own Conservative Party challenged her role as party leader.

May's government is likewise split.

The immediate prospect for May is a cabinet meeting with her ministers on Wednesday morning when she may be encouraged to resign due to the magnitude of the defeat in the House of Commons.

Britain's scheduled departure from the European Union is less than three months away.

But with no clear majority in Parliament for any single alternate course, there is a growing chance that Britain may seek to postpone its departure date while politicians work on a new plan.

"Barnier issued his stark warning in the European Parliament plenary in Strasbourg, the morning after the United Kingdom parliament voted overwhelmingly to reject the Withdrawal Agreement he and his team negotiated with Prime Minister Theresa May".

Despite carrot-and-stick attempts to cajole her colleagues to back her, she was on Tuesday once again forced into a making a chastening address after her humiliating defeat.
