Trump says no emergency declaration to end US govt shutdown

Trump indicates he won’t declare national emergency over border wall ‘so fast’ Government shutdown becomes longest in US history

President Donald Trump has said he has "no idea" if he will be able to strike a deal with the Democrats for his border wall and end the longest United States government shutdown in history.

Experts have said that the wall, an idea conceived of by Trump's campaign aides to help him do not forget to vilify immigrants in campaign speeches to his mostly white supporters, will achieve little in terms of security. Earlier, Trump backed away from threats to declare a national emergency and build the wall with money appropriated from military, water management and disaster management funds, among other sources.

Over 400,000 federal employees are expected to work throughout the shutdown despite missing paychecks, including the workers who are tasked with protecting the southern border like border patrol agents, Customs and Border Protection officers and Coast Guard crews. On Saturday, day 22, members of Congress were out of Washington, Donald Trump was unmoved in the White House, his border wall unbuilt, and around 800,000 federal workers were still without pay and facing mounting hardship.

Andrew Boyle, counsel at the Brennan Center's Liberty and National Security Program, says the misleading statistics and anecdotal examples of crimes Trump has made in public remarks won't help in front of a judge. "I have the absolute right", he said. The only option, Graham tweeted, was for Trump to "declare a national emergency NOW".

"They can name it 'peaches.' I don't care what they name it". But the Mexican government has refused and Trump is now demanding that Congress provide funding. By Friday, lawmakers said they were being told those projects will not be touched and the White House was now looking for other funds to pay for the border wall.

IDF Chief Says Israel Struck Syria Without 'Asking for Credit'
The last Israeli attack reported by Syrian state media was on 25 December, when a missile attack wounded three Syrian soldiers. Russian Federation announced it had delivered the S-300 air defense system to Syria in October.

Mr Trump said on Thursday that, instead of a direct payment, Mexico would be "paying for the wall indirectly, many, many times over", under a new trade deal between the US, Mexico and Canada.

The White House has suggested building the wall with steel rather than concrete as a key concession.

Under the National Emergencies Act of 1976, presidents do have the authority to declare crises and act on them, but they have to justify their reasoning with existing statutes Congress has already approved.

Both Pelosi and Schumer have since repeated the phrase "Trump Shutdown", but it's not actually the most accurate description of what's going on.

But some in the White House are trying to apply the brakes. Jared Kushner was among those opposed to the declaration, arguing to his father-in-law that pursuing a broader immigration deal was a better option. Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of SC, who met with the president on Friday, took to Twitter afterward to urge: "Mr. President, Declare a national emergency NOW". That's according to a congressional aide and administration official familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the request.

On June 1, 2018, he sent a loving message that read: "You know what I want? Deep. "If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again".

On the campaign trail, the president often said at rallies that Mexico would pay for the wall.

The investigation became a part of special counsel Robert Mueller's inquiry into potential collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump election campaign. "This is a big diversion, and he's a master of diversion", she told reporters.

"We're either going to have a win, make a compromise, because I think a compromise is a win for everybody, or I will declare a national emergency", he said.

President Barack Obama stunned Republicans when he bypassed Congress and used executive powers to enact parts of his agenda. It would allow him to tap unspent Defense dollars to pay for construction.

Opponents say such a unilateral presidential move would be constitutional overreach and set a risky precedent in similar controversies. 'But those same conservatives, I'm sure if it's deployed, would embrace him as having done all he could do to negotiate with Democrats'.
